When a spaceship arrives in Arizona in 1873 to take over the world, starting with the Wild West, it's up to two enemies and their gang, including a beautiful, mysterious woman, to rescue their townsfolk from the clutches of the aliens and send those extraterrestrials back into outer space.
Fun, yet uneven, Cowboys & Aliens starts promisingly with Harrison Ford and Daniel Craig butting heads in the mould of a classic Western. Unfortunately, the introduction of the aliens and development of the story do not work as seamlessly as director Jon Favreau had hoped and the film is forced to rely on an impressive finale to win the audience back round.
Olivia Wilde is wasted as the eye candy with the otherworldly looks, while Craig and Ford pull off solid turns as the gruff anti-heroes, but the film suffers from a lack of levity. Largely entertaining, but guilty of taking itself a little too seriously.
